Stuart Alter

Indigo Solution's founder, Stuart Alter, is a Business Intelligence Entrepreneur and a 26-year veteran of the information technology industry after graduating with a Bachelor of Science as part of the initial wave of Management Information Systems degrees. Being part of the industry basically since its inception as “decision support systems” in the 1980s, Stuart has seen the technology and the industry mature. From an auxiliary aspect of an organization, Business Intelligence has become the key component to the successful stewardship of an organization.

He is an enthusiastic expert at the integration and transformation of data into business intelligence that generates viable and insightful knowledge which allows an organization to better understand itself, its operations, its environment, and its people.

Stuart has always viewed IT as means to an end, not the end itself. As a result, his projects do not overemphasize the technology, but design the fitting solution. He has implemented business intelligence applications in scale from an Oracle real-time data warehouse to an Excel pivot table.

Indigo Solution, founded in 2001, has been the means by which he has contributed inventive strategies and methodologies to many organizations and situations. Most recently, he has led the design, implementation and deployment of a Correctional Business Intelligence application at the Philadelphia Prison System.

Through his efforts, this was accomplished by a cooperative effort among various city agencies in addition to the Prison including the City of Philadelphia's Managing Director's Office, the Division of Social Services, the Philadelphia Department of Technology, and several other criminal justice agencies and committees.

Stuart Alter presented the workshop, 'The Business Intelligence of Corrections', at the Correctional Technology Association Conference in Colorado Springs in May of 2008.

In 2008, Indigo Solution joined the Sustainability Business Network of Greater Philadelphia. Stuart has always been an advocate of the environment and has implemented various initiatives to reduce waste. He always designs business intelligence applications with paper reduction and energy conservation in mind. He was worked and volunteered at the Clean Air Council and he spearheaded the effort to eliminate styrofoam where possible at a workplace.

With such a global and local emphasis on Green initiatives, Stuart is more determined than ever to ensure that IT projects reduce waste and protect the environment in addition to achieving cost savings and the attainment of organizational goals.
